Fun A Day Dundee 2025 celebrates January project with a Brilliant Opening Night at Blend Café

We couldn’t have asked for a better finish to this year’s Fun A Day Dundee! The opening night, held on Friday 4th July at the welcoming and cosy Blend Café on Dock Street, was a wonderful celebration of creativity, community, and good vibes.

The venue was buzzing with energy as artists, friends, and curious visitors admired the incredible range of work produced throughout January from a whole range of people, local, and far (New Zealand!) From detailed sketchbook entries and inspiring poetry to beautiful crafts, unique textiles, original music, natural sculptures, abstract documentation, and even holiday memories captured in jar lids — the walls overflowed with colour, imagination, and joy. And so no one had FOMO, we also hosted a crafty station of clay modelling, colouring in and craft.

It was especially heartwarming to see so many past FADD participants exhibiting with us once again — a true reflection of the creative community that has flourished around this project and endured, even through the gaps in recent years. And while not everyone who took part in the January challenge chose to exhibit, we want to give a huge shout out to everyone who participated in little and big ways in January. Your efforts, creativity, and consistency throughout the month are what make this project so special.

A special highlight of the evening was a live performance by local musician and participant Ed Muirhead, whose music added a heartfelt and uplifting soundtrack to our night. Fun Fact: Ed is the longest participating individual for FADD, including all of the FADD Team. He’s been embracing a fun-filled January for a whopping 12 years, just check out his projects here! We also had beautiful photography captured by participant and FADD team member Jilly Noble, capturing the warmth and magic of the night.

It was a fun, casual, and arty evening — the perfect reflection of what Fun A Day Dundee is all about: encouraging everyday creativity, sharing what we make, and celebrating the joy of doing something fun just for the sake of it.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, contributed, performed, exhibited, volunteered, photographed, and supported the event. And of course, a huge shout-out to Blend for hosting us so graciously. Real supporters of local creatives, we are sad to see them leave their premises in Dock Street, but look forward to seeing what else is in store in the near future.
The exhibition closes on the 10th August, so if you missed us in July, there’s still time to pop in and see all the fantastic work!
